Coaching centres Vs Teaching in schools

Updated discussion on an issue, contributed by The National UN Volunteers under the ageis of Pooma Educational Trust.

Question :

• Mrs. Suman Das-The National UN Volunteer:
My favourite teacher was my senior school mathematics teacher.  Now a days we see that the students are only fascinated with tuitions. It has become a fashion and attraction for students. On the other side many teachers are busy into taking coaching, batch after batch. What are your views about coaching centres which are propping in every street & corner? What would be your message for such students?

Answer:

• Dr. A. Mujeeb Khan:
*Madam teaching is an art*
Coaching centres or tuitions are propping up more now as the teachers working in schools are
➖Not satisfied with Salary they are paid *(OR)*
➖Few got greed to Earn more *(OR)*
➖Some think they can teach better than others in comparison and make students come to them
*In perspective of students*
➖They Not satisfied with the methods they taught in schools by their teacher
➖The content is not taught with simplicity
➖They are not being motivated to learn by their teachers
And one reason might be they not like the teacher so they not understand concepts taught
My message is *Love your teacher way of teaching, follow his method of teaching*
Every content taught make note
▪P : Prepared
▪NP : Need Preparation
▪NC : Need Clarification
And approach your teacher to clarify concepts you marked NC
For a teacher *My message : Do task bestowed on you with zeal to build future of students and help in growth of institution* so they accept you and respect you.

• Mrs. Sabural Banu The National UN Volunteer:
If parents r involved in the school activities nd keep updating about their child,s performance ,there will b transparency in functioning of school nd v get lot of suggestions nd advices which will really help us run smoothly as well as teachers will be active always as they have to answer them about their ward.

• Mr. Arun Kumar sutaria:
Mushroom growth of coaching centers/tuitions is no good sign for kids and schools. These are not centers where u learn values, manners and learn 3 Rs. It is a reflection of poor education in the school s and parents greed which is a also reflection of their ignorance.

• Mr. Noble Matthew:
We have banned coaching for students in our school. The credit of good performance always goes to coaching centre and for bad performance school becomes the culprit even the student does coaching in the same coaching centre.
I believe this is the experience for many.
Why should a parent spent on the same in two institutions. Do any pay for the same product In different shops. But was difficult to convince the parents on the matter since it has become a fashion rather a need.

•Mrs. Afroze Sultana The National UN Volunteer:
It should be practice in all schools but parents don't have trust on schools though they pay a huge amount as fee they trust fake promises made by coaching center where child' is forced to do to rote learning
Children should be encourage to do self study with parent support  right from primary classes but many parents send there primary school children also to tuitions and coaching classes where child is losing all his freedom.

• Mr. Alok:
There is a sense of helplessness among the parents regarding education. On one hand they want their children to survive and do well in the rat race. On the other hand school is also not able to give any alternative i.e. empowering the character. If there is neither good education nor the strength of the character then the children will suffer a lot. In this scenario coaching institutions are thriving. Drilling and problem solving in coaching institutions only hone the intellect of the learner. Other aspects of the Being remains undeveloped. Only if there is good samskaras in the family then the child will find inner strength to navigate to higher and deeper realities of life and become a blessings to the country.

• Mr. Noble Matthew:
There is a wrong concept among many parents that education is defined in quality as the students are got engaged in study throughout the day and coaching is a means for the same
Ask a parent eager on coaching, how can a single fellow can handle different subjects in a limited time which is dealt with specialised teachers in a day. (There are few exceptions but not many)
There is even a wrong concept of standards in textbooks. The more it is tough it is standard. But in my view education means to make concepts easier for students to understand.

•  ProfAlmas Ansari:
Even if we want to provide a quality teaching in school??
As a teacher our works
To update student sarv Shiksha abhiyan form
To update every student records weekly
To monitor a election duties
To arrange different events in a school like swatch Bharat, yoga day etc..
And also prepare a record of it
Also perform various social activities and events
Help to govt. For any compaign
Sir, there is not enough time for us to prepare ourselves for better teaching.

• Dr. Amit The National UN Volunteer:
Good initiative sir!
We have also convinced parents to teach the kids themselves and if they have problems they can learn it from our teachers in the ptms so they actually know the status of their child rather then expecting great results for money they spent.
We have started this for lower grades ie nur to 4... We explain them that if they are not educated so is the child just learn from us and teach them at home.

• Mrs. Naveed Anjum:
Children are more successful at school when parents are involved, teachers, too are positively affected when parents take interest.

• Dr Jabeen Taj:
If parents are involved in the school activities they are motivated to bring changes, where their kids are studying. even they can come forward to donate for the  infrastructure of the school.

• Dr. Mujeeb Khan:
You are right madam
Specially it will help to develop our Government schools under Public Private Partnership.

• Mrs Suman Das - The National UN Volunteer:
I believe if our students are rushing towards coaching centres then somehow we as teachers need to seriously introspect into our teaching style. The external factors such as parents, their demands & aspirations, management pressure etc should not affect us. I have seen students who come to school to attend the lecture of a specific teacher, even stay back after school hours to attend the extra class and I interpret this as the teacher might have satisfied all needs of the students in the school itself. A teacher inspires his/her students. If we want to curtail the coaching fashion, we have to bring the change and innovation into our instructional practices.

• Dr SHAKILA BANU
Since the policy makers in the country r burdening the teachers nd students parents r forced to send their wards from school to next school I,e coaching centres r hiring tutors to come home for coaching has become a trend nd here there is a serious issue I feel is hindering schools nd the teachers at school.
Since these home tuitions hv become a trend where individual attention is given parents  expectations from school r growing which is really a challenge on management's of private institutions nd teachers.
There should be some system where these Institutes hiring online teachers for home tuitions nd plus in addition to it online tuitions r also taken its place new software's r providing what the so called developed countries have adopted every day a new representative from company visits schools with advanced technology nd that is the need of the hour also.
Now v should see how v teachers school leaders nd policy makers work on these updated upcoming changes.

• Mrs Reeta Kaushik
It became status symbol also branded coaching are opening they provide better option for children rather than class they work hard to promote their centre if teacher pay 100%in class children also there is no need for coaching.

• Mr Achayan
He forgot to mention the parents view.
1. They feel the tuition centres are better for some reason. (No trust in the school!! Then why did he enroll the child there??)
2. Without going to a centre my child is not going to get good marks. (No trust in the child. Do they feel the child is just a chip off the old block)
3. Others are going so let my child also go. ( Following a trend)

Why Schools should create social responsibility to drive change?

Why Schools should create social responsibility to drive change? A school plays a vital role in the child’s development. Children get their formal education in a school. Schools need to promote the education which is meaningful and has to be fit into the framework of the society. Today’s children will grow up and become future adults of our society. Hence if today’s children are not made aware of their social responsibility towards the community then the social issues or problem will grow more and more. There is an urgent need to foster strong mental and social health amongst today’s children so that they can connect with their peers, their elders, the community, the environment, etc. School education must empower children to be active citizens, caring, responsible and compassionate human beings. As the children spend most of the time in school, hence schools must promote the activities to sensitize children towards social responsibility to bring positive change in the soci

Preparedness: Development of Disaster Management Skills in students

Preparedness: Development of Disaster Management Skills in students  Education is not only assimilation of information and imparting bookish knowledge to students but that information and knowledge must be applied either for earning livelihood or saving life from any unforeseen disaster. Our curriculum covers all areas of learning through skilful education. With this purpose a textbook on disaster management, “Together towards safer India Part-III” is applied in class X course. We teach all kinds of drills such as fire evacuation, earthquake evacuation, flood evacuation etc. We explain and demonstrate all survival skills, safe construction practices, communication during disasters and sharing responsibilities. Schools are giving emphasis on practical drills while teaching such content. In past we have witnessed many unforeseen fire tragedies where the children were being involved, like the fire tragedy of Kumbakonam in which 93 children charred to death, Dabwali fire acciden

mlearning: An Innovative Pedagogical Tool

Blog write up by Mrs Suman Purohit Das mlearning: An Innovative Pedagogical Tool With the advancement of educational technology, our teaching-learning process has faced the utmost changing trends. The classroom technology trends are changing so swiftly and speedily that the teachers and educators have to keep themselves equipped to meet the expectations of a diverse classroom for optimum learning. 21st century Gen Z is born with technology in hand, that’s why these children are known as “Digital Natives”. If we do not bring innovative technology to the classrooms then our classrooms will be dull, boring and it will be difficult to engage and excite children for learning in future. Teachers have to embed technology into their innovative instructional planning. Around 5 years back on the name of educational technology, most of the schools had started changing their chalk & black boards into digital/interactive boards so called “Smart Boards”. But that also got out dat
