Answers: • Mr. Alok Kumar Mohanty-The National UN Volunteer: Literacy and education are two different things. One might be educated because of his/her experience but may not be literate ( to read & write). To enhance literacy our govt is running Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. However, engagement with people in village, town level during their free time, beginning to link literacy with the day to day functioning may help. • Mrs Sunita Singh: There are lot many initiative govt has taken to bring 100% literacy rate . Question is will all these initiative of govt would achieve the target ? I think no - because if there is no will to gain education we can not instil it in any one . So not only motivation but govt has to create such environment for every ine where they can attain education with out stress and fear . Some kind of motivation as mr . Anand kumar initiated in patn

The UN Student volunteers

The UN  Student volunteers Mr. Azeez UNV: We soon install UN student volunteers in schools across India. I am connecting HRD and UNO for the approval. Soon it comes true. Rote learning..

Question: •Mr. Ashish Bhatnagar UNV:  Do you think Rote learning is completely wrong? There are lot of things where memorising plays a very important role. What's your take on this? • Dr Jacqueline Mahadik UNV: Rote learning is defined as the memorization of information based on repetition. The two best examples of rote learning are the alphabet and numbers. Slightly more complicated examples include multiplication tables and spelling words. At the high-school level, scientific elements and their chemical numbers must be memorized by rote. And, many times, teachers use rote learning without even realizing they do so. •Dr Jacqueline Mahadik UNV: The true purpose of rote memorization in education is to create automaticity, so that, for example, when a child sees a letter or group of letters he or she automatically says the sounds. ... For example, there is no substitute for rote memorization in learning the arithmetic facts. •Mr. Rafeeque UNV: Exploratory space

Technology in education

Question. •Mrs Asha Mittal UNV: I have a question which has become more relevant in the context of teaching through the modern technological aids . Earlier, the students were asked to memories the tables by heart so as to do the mathematical calculations. These days, some of the schools allow them to use calculators that too class 7th/8th onwards. What's your take on it? •Mr. Rafeeque A S UNV: Technological aid must be for augmenting their base. Calculator/any kills it. I second the idea that there are some conditions like this where there is no alternative for rote learning. •Dr Shakila Banu UNV: Now there are many ways where teachers are trained the teachers to teach math in different methodology.for ex: mental maths, abacus, vedic maths etc. Here once the students are taught the method they are sure to take it in their higher studies.
